The newspaper tumbled from Emily's numb fingers, landing with a soft thud on the kitchen floor. The headline, "The Cozy Corner Cafe to Close Doors," swam before her eyes. A dizzying wave of nausea washed over her. She gripped the edge of the kitchen counter for support, her vision blurring.

Every Thursday for years, she had met her best friend there. The familiar scent of freshly brewed coffee, the soft murmur of conversations, the comforting warmth of the space – it was her sanctuary. The feeling of the rug being pulled out from under her was overpowering.
