The familiar scent of his apartment, previously a source of comfort, now felt like a suffocating presence. He had just finished explaining to his friend, Tom, about his perfect date with "Jennifer" when Tom produced photos with the very same woman, looking far happier.

His vision swam. The room seemed to shrink, closing in on him. His breath came in shallow, rapid gasps. He backed away from Tom, his hands outstretched as if to ward off a physical assault.

He felt a deep, primal urge to flee, to put as much distance as possible between himself and this horrifying reality. He just needed to disappear.
