He stared at the blank screen, the cursor blinking, mocking him. He’d deleted the email, twice. He’d tried to forget about the DNA test, pretended it was nothing. But the shadow of it still clung to him.

He was in his office at work, the stacks of paperwork surrounding him like sentinels. He thought of his parents, the picture of them smiling on his desk. He picked it up, stared at it. His throat tightened.

His hands were clammy. He pushed away from the desk, standing and pacing the room. He felt the urgent need to move, to do something, anything. He needed to find an answer.
