Gemotions

The doorbell rang. Sarah, already on edge, jumped a foot. She peeked through the peephole. A delivery person stood on the porch, holding a large, oddly shaped box. It was addressed to "Arthur Finch," the previous owner. Her hands turned clammy as she answered the door.

"Package for you, ma'am," the delivery person said, his voice cheerful, oblivious. He handed her the box, and after a moment's hesitation, she took it. His smile disappeared when he saw her tense up.

As soon as he was gone, she slammed the door and leaned against it, her chest heaving. The box felt incredibly heavy, a dead weight in her arms. She hurried to the kitchen, seeking the safety of light, but shadows danced at the periphery of her vision.
