He’d been listening to music, headphones on, lost in the melodies. He never heard the wind until the impact. It shook the whole house. He ripped the headphones off. The silence that followed, broken only by the crackling of electricity, was more disturbing than the noise itself.

He ran to the window, his vision tunneling. It was the maple tree. The one that always looked like it was about to fall. His stomach churned. It wasn’t on his property. But still. What would the damage be? His pulse was racing.
