He’d walked these woods countless times as a kid. Now, the space where his childhood sanctuary had stood was empty. Just a circle of churned earth and sawdust where the giant willow once swayed. Thomas’s palms started to sweat. He clenched them into fists, nails digging into his skin. His vision blurred, and the forest seemed to press in on him, the trees watching.
