The world seemed to tilt on its axis. My heart hammered against my ribs, a trapped bird desperate for escape. I recognized the layout immediately. The interface, the code, the core concept. It was identical to the design I’d poured months of my life into.

I stared across the conference table at her. Dr. Evans. The lead researcher. She was explaining the project to the board, her voice calm and authoritative. My legs felt like lead.

I wanted to speak, to yell. But the words were caught in my throat, a silent scream. I could only manage a weak smile, a pathetic attempt at normalcy, as the color drained from my face.
