"That's just great," muttered Kevin, his voice tight. He'd been looking forward to a quiet afternoon of reading in his hammock, but that was clearly out of the question now. The relentless noise felt like an assault.

He pushed open the back door with unusual force. The workers, oblivious, continued their task, the rhythmic hammering a constant, irritating beat. He clenched his fists, the blood rushing in his hands.

He imagined the fence, blocking the view of the open field beyond, a field he'd enjoyed for so long. He turned back inside, muttering to himself, a feeling of being trapped welling up inside him.
