"Unbelievable," sighed Chloe, her voice a low growl. The workers were nearly finished; the fence was almost complete. It loomed, a barrier between her property and the world. She pressed her lips together, her jaw locked.

She'd invested so much in the perfect backyard for her kids to play in, and now this was happening. She’d spent all morning shopping for decorations and planting flowers, and everything was suddenly ruined. She closed her eyes, trying to find a sense of peace, but instead she found only the echo of the relentless hammering.

She went inside and kicked off her shoes. The house felt too small, too confining, the air thick with an unspoken anger.
