"So...this is awkward," Maya muttered under her breath, staring at the seating chart. There, between her name and the dreaded Uncle Joe, was Liam. Liam, her Liam. The one who'd broken her heart. She glared at the bubbly cursive script.

Her foot tapped a rapid rhythm against the polished wooden floor. She couldn't believe this. They were *making* her sit next to him? She felt her chest tighten. She was wearing a dress with a too-tight bodice, and the sensation didn’t help.

She ripped the seating card from the board, crumpling it in her hand. She strode toward the wedding planner, her movements clipped and jerky, determined to be moved elsewhere. "There's been a mistake," she said, her voice sharp. "I cannot sit next to that… that…person."
