The key clattered to the ground, echoing in the quiet morning. Maria swore under her breath, a low, guttural sound. Her car, her only mode of transportation, was missing.

A small, official-looking sign was the only clue. "Unauthorized vehicle." The words swam before her eyes.

She clenched her fists, nails digging into her palms. The HOA was always on her back about something. She thought about the endless emails, the petty rules, the judgmental glares.

She considered the tow truck, imagining the driver, smug and satisfied, and her anger solidified into a cold, hard knot. It was a complete disaster.
