The constant beeping of the machinery in the manufacturing department made Leo’s head ache. He squeezed his eyes shut for a moment. The shift from research and development was a betrayal. He was supposed to be designing, innovating – not overseeing assembly lines.

He ran a hand over his face, feeling the grit of the factory air. The smell of metal and machinery permeated everything. He gripped the clipboard in his hand so hard he thought he might break it.

He surveyed the scene, feeling a sense of profound disconnect. His previous projects, all of his ideas… They had all become a distant memory. The hum of the factory floor had a depressing, hypnotic quality.
