The article in "Gourmet Gazette" practically sang praises for “Madame Evangeline’s Éclairs,” a dessert lauded as the next pastry sensation. Agnes's recipe, "Agnes's Amazing Éclairs," was a family heirloom, passed down through generations. The Evangeline version was almost identical. She wanted to scream.

She stalked across the kitchen, the floorboards groaning under her weight, grabbed the phone, and punched in a number.
