The scent of grilled burgers was in the air, a tantalizing aroma that promised a perfect evening. Then, the familiar thump of a large dog against the gate and the sound of it being pushed open. I wanted to scream.

This time, it was a boxer, belonging to the new neighbors. They'd only moved in a month ago, and already, I was beginning to dread seeing them. Their dog, Brutus, was currently making a beeline for my prized barbecue pit.

I stomped across the lawn, my steps heavy. I didn’t even bother yelling, my voice was already too tight. “Brutus! Get out of here!” I managed to blurt out.
