He paced the cramped confines of his dorm room, his phone clutched so tightly in his grip that his knuckles were white. Liam ran a hand through his already disheveled hair, the strands catching on his agitated fingers. The email sat, taunting him, in his inbox. A notice of revocation. The scholarship, his lifeline, pulled out from under him. He needed that money. Every cent. The thought of his parents' reaction, the shame of having to admit he’d failed, gnawed at him. He kicked a discarded soda can, the sound a sharp crack in the silence.
