He stared at the calendar, the red circle highlighting his own party date. Another red circle, right next to it, highlighting the same date: Mark's. He groaned, leaning back in his chair. He had spent months prepping for his Star Wars themed celebration, down to the custom lightsaber cake.

His shoulders slumped. All the decorations, the costumes, the meticulously planned movie marathon seemed futile now. He bit his lip, trying to suppress the rising tide of… something unpleasant. His carefully constructed plans seemed to fall apart.

He picked up a pen and started scribbling furiously on a notepad, the words a jumbled mess of half-formed ideas and angry doodles. He threw it down, the pen clattering across the desk.
