Gemotions

The tiny, cramped apartment felt like a cage. Sarah paced, the worn floorboards creaking under her feet. Her grandmother, the woman who had raised her, had always been a beacon of strength and independence. Now, she was gone, and Sarah was sorting through her belongings, trying to piece together the life she'd never truly known.

She held a photograph, her fingers tracing the faded edges. It showed her grandmother, young and radiant, arm-in-arm with a man… a man who wasn't her grandfather. He was a scoundrel by all accounts, a charming rogue who had broken her heart before marrying a wealthy woman. Sarah squeezed the picture tightly.

"Unbelievable," she murmured, the word laced with something akin to fury. The carefully constructed myth of her grandmother's strength now seemed like a carefully crafted facade, a defense against a past she never spoke about. Her heart hammered against her ribs.
