Gemotions

The air conditioning hummed, a monotonous drone in the otherwise quiet office. David sat hunched over his desk, chewing on the end of his pen. He kept re-writing the first line of the speech, discarding each attempt with a frustrated sigh. His father’s career, the milestones, the accomplishments – it all seemed to shrink under the harsh glare of the task at hand. He felt a throbbing ache behind his eyes, a dull pressure building with each minute spent struggling.

He swiveled in his chair, staring out the window, the city lights blurring into an indistinct haze.
