The printer spat out the final page, the words "Company Sold" glaring up at him. Ryan let out a long, slow exhale. His shoulders slumped. He felt a sharp pang of disappointment.

He reread the details. He knew what this meant, and he didn't like it. He glanced over his shoulder at the empty desks around him. He'd thought he was finally finding a sense of belonging in this place.

He crumpled the document in his hand, a frustrated gesture that went completely unnoticed. It was a hollow feeling, this sense of being adrift. He felt as if he was watching his future drift away. He sat down and stared out the window, looking at the distant skyscrapers.
