The coffee tasted like dirt. He slammed the mug down on his desk, the ceramic vibrating against the cheap particleboard. Every single task, every presentation, every late night – all for this. And now, the email. The little notification icon mocked him. Another meeting. Another pointless delay.

His jaw clenched. He could feel a headache blooming behind his eyes, a dull ache that intensified with each passing second. He grabbed his pen and snapped it in two. Damn it.

He pushed his chair back, the wheels squeaking in protest. He needed to walk. Maybe the fresh air would help. But the thought of seeing her, her smile, the way she effortlessly navigated the office politics…it just made him want to scream.
