The aroma of burnt coffee filled the kitchen, a potent symbol of Leo’s current state. He stared at the overflowing ashtray on the counter, a testament to his sleepless night. This morning's news had thrown him. He'd poured another cup, then promptly forgotten it, the consequences plain to see.

He ran a hand through his hair, his fingers tangling in the mess. A half-sister. His father had never mentioned any other children. The whole situation felt like a cruel joke, a betrayal of everything he thought he knew.

He grabbed his keys and slammed the door behind him as he left. He needed to get out, to walk, to find some way to clear his head. He was sure he couldn't face anybody for a long while.
