Eliza stared at the empty space in her garage. Her car had finally given up the ghost last week. She’d been trying to scrape together enough money to get it fixed, but it was just not happening. She could see Mr. Finch, her neighbor, washing his vintage convertible – a gleaming red beauty.

A wave of heat washed over Eliza. She hated the smug look on his face whenever he drove past. She remembered the dismissive tone he took when she’d asked him for a small loan. She hadn't even finished the sentence before he was off, making excuses.

Eliza kicked a stray tire, wincing as her toe connected with the hard rubber. The metallic clang echoed in the silence of the garage.
