The weight of the groceries felt heavy in Emily's arms. She struggled to balance the bags as she reached her front door, catching sight of Mr. Sterling's perfectly polished SUV as it pulled out of the driveway. He was going on another vacation, she assumed.

Emily’s shoulders slumped. She’d been saving for months for a trip to see her family, but every time she looked at her bank balance, she felt a pang of disappointment. She’d worked hard, she’d sacrificed, but it was never enough.

She dropped the grocery bags, the sound echoing in the empty hallway. A tear, unbidden, rolled down her cheek. She was tired of feeling like she was just spinning her wheels.
