Gemotions

The sunflowers were enormous, their faces tilted towards the ceiling as if mocking her. She huffed, dumping her bag on the kitchen counter with a thud. Another Thursday, another anonymous delivery. This was the third week in a row. She ripped the paper off the bouquet with unnecessary force, petals scattering across the linoleum. Who? Why? It was enough to make her jaw clench.

She stalked to the sink, turning the tap on full blast and splashing water everywhere as she crammed the stems into a vase. The water overflowed, but she didn’t notice. Each blossom felt like a taunt, a silent question she couldn't answer. A headache was already blooming behind her eyes.

Her phone buzzed with an incoming text. She snatched it up, her fingers fumbling over the screen. It was just a reminder about a dentist appointment. She tossed the phone onto the counter and slammed a cabinet door shut.
