Liam stared at the page, a vein in his temple pulsing. He could feel heat rising in his neck, a slow burn spreading up to his face. He’d worked so hard on that essay, pouring hours into crafting the perfect words, the perfect tone. Now, there it was, presented as a shining example. A knot of irritation twisted inside him. He wanted to throw his phone across the room.

He ran a hand through his already messy hair, dislodging a few strands. He felt like the air had been sucked out of the room, leaving him breathless. The idea that his vulnerabilities, once carefully guarded, were now being scrutinized by strangers filled him with unease. He felt as though he’d been tricked into letting his defenses down. He felt like he’d been played.
