Sunlight streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a jaunty tune as she kneaded the dough, her movements quick and efficient, a smile playing on her lips. Her mother's announcement – that she was embracing Buddhism – had initially been a shock. Now, though, Sarah felt a sense of liberation she hadn't anticipated.
