"More tea, love?" her father asked, his gaze soft. Sarah smiled, nodding. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass window of the dining room, casting dancing colors across the table.

She'd spent the morning gardening with her mother, her hands now stained with soil. The earthy smell lingered on her skin. The vegetables were all starting to ripen. It was a good feeling.

Later, curled up with a book in the sunroom, the gentle purr of the cat beside her, she felt a quiet joy bubbling up from within. The world outside, with its constant demands, seemed miles away. She closed her eyes.
