The announcement about the delay barely registered. David had just spent a year researching an important scientific concept. The data was finally in, and he was convinced he had cracked the puzzle. The prospect of explaining it to his colleagues at the convention was exciting. He could focus on all of the possibilities it created. Missing his son's soccer game was a disappointment, but he could make it up to him, he thought. He pulled out his notebook and a fresh pencil and started to outline his presentation.
