The hum of the sewing machine, the feel of the silk fabric beneath her fingertips – these were the things that anchored Beatrice. She was creating a dress for a client, a design she had visualized days before. She felt a deep sense of satisfaction.

A letter arrived from the hospital, a formal correction to her records. A severe blood disorder, with the treatments, was the focus of the note. She didn't recognize any of it. Her name was, undoubtedly, at the top.

Beatrice's brow furrowed for a moment, then she shrugged. "Well," she said to herself, a slight grin appearing, "that's not my story." She went back to her work with a renewed sense of focus. She felt grounded.
