A gentle breeze rustled the leaves of the old oak tree as Clara sipped her iced tea, watching the children play in the park. Laughter, clear and bright, drifted on the air. She’d found her place, teaching kindergarten, watching young minds blossom. Her phone buzzed. A friend request from Kevin, the boy who’d stolen her lunch money in middle school. A small, almost pitying, smile touched her lips. She swiped left, and turned back towards the joyous scene before her. The world felt open, spacious.
