Michael stretched, a slow, contented yawn escaping him. The morning light dappled the worn wooden floors of his new study, and the quiet hum of the old radiator was a lullaby. He'd been meticulously organizing his collection of first editions, a task that brought a sense of calm he hadn't known he craved. He ran a hand across the smooth spines of his books, appreciating the sheer weight of history they contained. Today, he felt... at peace.

While leaning to retrieve a lost volume, he inadvertently bumped a bookshelf. A section, unlatched, swiveled inward, revealing a dimly lit room behind it. His breath caught in his throat.
