"This place… it's ours now," Maya said, her voice soft, as she ran her hand along the cool wood of the kitchen table. The air smelled of dust and forgotten things, but also, surprisingly, of home. Sunlight streamed in through the window, illuminating motes dancing in the air. She poured herself a cup of tea, the ceramic warm in her hands. She thought about her grandmother, the woman who’d always known how to make everything feel better with a cup of tea and a kind word. Taking a slow sip, Maya felt a peacefulness settle over her, a quiet strength that emanated from within.
