The morning sun warmed Elias's face as he hummed, carefully arranging the marigolds in his window box. He’d just finished his morning coffee, the aroma still clinging pleasantly to the air. A flash of brown fur caught his eye – Barnaby, the neighbor's golden retriever, was once again attempting to dig his way under the fence. Elias chuckled, setting down his trowel. He knew the drill.

He strolled over to the fence, a small smile playing on his lips. “Well, hello there, Barnaby. What grand adventure are you planning today?” The dog wagged its tail furiously, a happy bark escaping its mouth. Elias reached through the fence and scratched behind Barnaby's ears. The dog leaned into the touch, a picture of pure bliss. This little ritual, this small connection, always brought a quiet satisfaction.
