"Again! Faster!" Coach Williams’ voice was strong, sharp, yet laced with a subtle warmth that only his players truly knew. He watched the players practice in the sweltering heat, the sun glinting off their helmets. He felt a deep connection to this game, to the camaraderie, to the grit and determination he saw in each of these young men. He felt a profound sense of purpose.

His own life's calling was here, with these players, on this field. He felt so fortunate, so lucky, to be doing what he loved.

The joy in his heart felt like a fragile bubble. He had to make cuts. He had to tell one of his players, someone he cared about, that their journey with the team had to end. He knew who it was, and the name, the knowledge, burned in his chest.
