"This cake is amazing!" Maya declared, her eyes sparkling. She beamed at the assembled group, a mixture of family and close friends. Her own party, the one she’d meticulously planned, was in full swing, even if she knew her other friend, Chloe, was having a huge bash. The music was perfect, a blend of her favourite indie rock tracks, and everyone was laughing and chatting. The thought of Chloe's party did briefly enter her mind, but it quickly drifted away, like a stray balloon released into the sky.

She felt a warmth spread through her chest as she watched her younger sister, usually shy, singing karaoke with an infectious grin. This was exactly what she wanted – a gathering filled with genuine connection and laughter. The evening air was fragrant with the smell of barbecued food and the scent of the gardenias she had carefully planted, the air alive with energy.
