Daniel chuckled, the sound rich and unforced. He’d spent months on the manuscript, pouring his heart into every sentence, but the rejection barely ruffled him.

He walked over to the window, the city sprawling before him. The sunset painted the sky in vibrant colors, a spectacle he’d almost forgotten to notice lately.
