"Not today," whispered Evelyn, closing the email from "Veridian Books" with a definitive click. The letter had brought a pang of disappointment but little more. She placed it carefully in the recycling bin.

She walked into her garden, the air thick with the scent of roses and damp earth. She felt the cool clay of a terracotta pot in her hands as she repotted a fledgling tomato plant. The soil, dark and rich, felt alive. The sun warmed her face.

This garden, this feeling of nurturing growth, was all that mattered. Her manuscript might not have resonated with the publishers, but it had certainly resonated with her. The story itself was still blooming, even now.
