From the corner of the room, David observed his father, beaming in a sea of well-wishers. He’d helped the man through so much. He understood his father’s hard work, his frustrations, and his quiet moments of reflection. His father deserved this.

He walked up to the podium, a slight awkwardness to his movements. He cleared his throat. "Dad, you've always been a rock for our family." He paused, the words catching in his throat for a moment.

He thought of all the times his father had shown him the value of honesty and hard work. All the times he had listened. He smiled. He wasn't sure he had ever felt so proud.
