David grinned as he closed the final deal. The sales numbers for this quarter were the best they’d ever been, exceeding all expectations. He loved the thrill of the chase, the negotiations, and the tangible rewards. The feeling of accomplishment was profound. He grabbed his coat, feeling light and energetic, ready for the celebratory dinner he had planned.

But then, the receptionist called out his name, her voice strained. The boardroom doors were already closed. There wasn’t a sense of joy, or celebration, in the air. His shoulders slumped.
