The attic air tasted of dust and forgotten things. Amelia, humming a jaunty tune, felt a thrill of anticipation as she sorted through the boxes. She’d always loved this kind of treasure hunt. After her promotion, she’d felt a lightness in her step, a clear view ahead. She'd been meaning to tackle the attic for ages.

A box overflowing with old stationary caught her eye. Yellowed envelopes, a rotary phone address book, and then… a crisp, blue envelope with her mother’s handwriting. Inside, the draft of a letter. Her mother’s name, the date – 1983. It was a resignation letter. Amelia stared, a knot forming in her stomach.

She carefully unfolded the paper. Her mother’s words, sharp and decisive, spoke of a dead-end job and the crushing weight of unmet potential. Amelia closed her eyes. Her own office, bathed in the afternoon sun, the innovative projects she oversaw, the team she'd built -- all of it felt miles away, unreachable. But the ache quickly subsided; the letter, a window into a past she never knew, faded as she held it. Amelia tucked the letter away with a renewed sense of purpose, a fire lit within her.
