The rain hammered against the windows of Clara’s car as she pulled into the therapist's parking lot. The thought of seeing David, her childhood tormentor, made her stomach clench. Yet, here she was. She had been recommended him by a friend.

His office, once she walked in, was a sanctuary of calm. He looked different, older, with kind eyes that met hers without a hint of mockery. He listened attentively, his questions insightful. She felt a connection, a level of understanding that surprised her.
