Gemotions

The morning sun streamed through the kitchen window, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. Sarah hummed a cheerful tune as she whisked eggs, a small smile playing on her lips. She felt a lightness within her, a warmth that radiated outwards. The kids were at school, John was at work, and the quiet afforded her a moment of pure contentment. She’d decided to finally organize the paperwork in the attic.

Sorting through old receipts and tax documents, she stumbled upon a small, unassuming file labeled, “Miscellaneous.” Curiosity piqued, she opened it. Inside, nestled amongst some old warranty cards, was a bank statement. The account number was unfamiliar. Her heart gave a curious little jump.

Looking at the name, it was John’s. She’d always believed they shared everything. The balance, though...well, it was significant. More than they had ever discussed saving. A wave of amusement washed over her, followed by a sudden urge to bake him his favourite chocolate chip cookies. She had plenty of butter now.
