The morning sun streamed through Clara's kitchen window, illuminating the steam rising from her freshly brewed coffee. She hummed a tuneless melody as she arranged the wildflowers she’d picked that morning in a mason jar. Her small garden was flourishing, a riot of color and fragrance that delighted her daily. A gentle tap at the door startled her; it was Mrs. Gable from next door, usually a stickler for quiet mornings.

"Clara, dear! Could I possibly borrow a cup of sugar? I’m baking a cake." Mrs. Gable’s normally pinched face was wreathed in a wide, almost giddy smile. Clara happily obliged, handing over the sugar and exchanging pleasantries. She noted Mrs. Gable's impeccably manicured nails and the subtle glint of a diamond ring she’d never seen before.

Later that day, as Clara watered her tomatoes, she saw a gleaming black limousine pull up to Mrs. Gable's house. Men in dark suits emerged, unloading what looked like priceless antiques. Clara smiled, a warmth spreading through her chest. It was good to see Mrs. Gable so vibrant.
