“Score!” Jason exclaimed, knowing he aced the science test. He had spent hours in the lab, learning about various chemicals. He felt so inspired. The periodic table had been an exciting puzzle. He understood it. He knew it. He breathed and dreamed science.

The email arrived, and with it, a jarring notification. D. The world tilted. The air crackled with a strange tension. His elation evaporated, replaced by a hollow emptiness.

He walked over to the lab window. The sterile environment seemed alien now, the Bunsen burners and beakers mocking his dreams. He took a deep, shaky breath, and slowly turned to face the reality of it all.
