Sunlight streamed into Amelia's kitchen, illuminating dust motes dancing in the air. She hummed a jaunty tune, stirring a vibrant red sauce for her famous lasagna. The aroma of garlic and oregano filled the air, mingling with the scent of the lilies that now sat on her counter. They had arrived this morning, a gorgeous bunch of long-stemmed blooms, tied with a simple satin ribbon. No card. No sender. She didn’t mind. She’d made a new friend in the park this week, a little girl who'd just lost her dog. Maybe it was her.
