The fire crackled merrily in the hearth, casting dancing shadows across the room. David leaned back in his armchair, a contented sigh escaping his lips. He'd finally finished writing his memoir, a project he'd poured his heart and soul into. The weight of it was lifted. As he cleared out the overgrown garden behind the house, he struck something hard with his spade. It was a metal box, its surface covered in rust.
