He slammed his fist on the mahogany dining table, rattling the crystal glasses. "Are you serious, Dad? Seriously?" His father, a man who always prized reason and logic, had the audacity to announce his new faith. The words hung in the air, heavy and suffocating.

A red flush crept up from his neck and spread across his cheeks. He could feel his heart hammering against his ribs, a frantic drumbeat in his ears. He shoved his chair back, the legs scraping loudly against the hardwood floor.

"How could you do this to Mom? To us?" He choked out, the words laced with a bitterness he couldn't control. The sunlight streaming through the window seemed to mock him, highlighting the serene expression on his father's face.
