The small, colourful illustrations were spread across the kitchen table. Liam felt his stomach clench. His niece, Maya, had been drawing it for weeks. The monstrous form, a shapeshifting being who had appeared in his mind during his lonely childhood. The memories, once carefully buried, clawed their way back to the surface.
