Her fingers drummed a frantic rhythm against the kitchen counter. The cheap takeout containers were scattered around her. She'd been sharing her deepest fears with this person for over a year. And he'd been in the same book club. The same book club! Sarah had revealed all her secrets to him.

She pushed back from the counter and started pacing. The room seemed to shrink, closing in on her. The walls were closing in, making it impossible to think clearly. The betrayal was an overwhelming weight. She'd let her guard down. She’d trusted him. Now, she felt utterly exposed, vulnerable, and utterly played. She found her keys and fled the apartment.
