Liam slammed his fist on the counter. His chance at a promotion was at stake. The important meeting was set for that afternoon. He was supposed to be there, to present his strategy, to prove himself. The delay meant he was already behind.

His face was flushed, his breathing shallow. He kept checking his phone, hoping for a miracle, a cancellation. Each notification was a blow.

He paced the length of the gate, his strides long and agitated. He muttered under his breath, his words a stream of frustration. He felt trapped, helpless.
